Re: 2100: Detection Error on Storage Device (M.2)

The problem mentioned here was about firmware update on LENOVO drive.  Updating Samsung drive is no problem, and never has been.  The update is safe to do.

Re: 2100: Detection Error on Storage Device (M.2)

2018-10-29, 0:20 AM

Like denster, I also have a Yoga X1 2nd gen (20JE) and this is my second machine, previous one was replaced after 2 screen, 1 ssd and 1 motherboard replacement. This machine presented the error that we are discussing, and also BSOD, especially after been used in tablet or tent mode, additionally, I lost the confidence to put the machine in sleep mode, because I took it several times out of my bag, either turned on, with a black screen and really hot or with depleted battery (this last one it was the same as the previous, but probably i didn't notice until I needed to use it). I asked for a full replacement, the Lenovo support staff told me that there are multiple sensors on the screen area that may be affected by the previous replacements causing this other issues. They also told me that the screen on this models is very fragile, wich It makes sense, but also made me think why Lenovo promotes this models with all that “military grade testing” if they don’t support some moderate work and home usage. Anyway.

Another detail of this "older" machine, the biometric auth worked randomly, before and after all the replacements, never worked like is supposed to do.

I received this, my current machine manufactured in feb of this year, on August 3, and the same issue of the previous laptop appeared on August 30th, as you may guess, I was extremely annoyed with this situation, on a new machine that supposedly will resolve my problem.

So, I called Lenovo support and, after some on site testing, they replaced the motherboard, It was fine for probably another month or so, and the problem appeared again. (2100: Detection error on storage device, BSOD with UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION and CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED). This happened to me on the worst time, I got several meetings and work related stuff and I wasn't able to close the lid of the laptop without needing to restart it several times for it to work again.

I made another call to Lenovo support, in the meantime (here in my country support on site is like 3 to 5 days) I took the matter on my hands and opened the back cover of the laptop, pulled the M.2 storage, clean it, and re attached firmly. After this, the problem has gone until now.

I might also add that I keep my software and firmware always up to date.

Hope this info helps someone with the same troubles. (sorry for my rudimentary English)

I have now now this error four times: on my new yoga x1 2nd gen, again after ssd replacement, again after ssd+motherboard replacement, and now again on a new yoga x1 3rd gen which Lenovo sent as replacement. I have asked for my money back.

I have been hitting this constantly with my T460S and a Samsumg NVMe SSD (MZVKV512).  Hardware scan via Lenovo Solution Center shows all fine.  Now what?

It means that the drive will fail soon, I would recommend getting in contact with support if the unit is in warranty. Hardware scans aren't always 100% accurate.

My T460S just did this too, but for the first time ever, and I can't get it to reboot...laptop is out of warranty, is there some way to recover the data? :(

You could try with an external M.2 reader.

I suggest you also try with removing the storage unit, cleaning the pin contacts and re installing.

Hope it helps

I contacted support and sure enough they swapped out the disk (computer still under 3 year warranty) and the issue is now gone.

Thanks!
