400nit screen on X1c gen 7 is not very bright at peak brightness

2021-04-22, 21:47 PM

As the title said, i bought a refurbished x1cg7 from lenovo’s outlet with a 400nit screen. However, out of the box, it seems like the max brigtness is not near 400 nit. I generally have to use it at peak brightness(which isnt bad but it feels like 250 nits ish). I’ve tried resetting drivers and checking most display related windows settings. I’m considering on sending it in if we cant solve it.

human perception of brightness is notoriously inaccurate

even 1000 nit panels can come up short

I am expecting that as backlighting improves the brightness will get better but it may be several years before prices ease

patents are the main reason that affordable hardware is mediocre at best

The problem is that the bright screens tend to use more power. Check the power settings.

My desktop panel is bright but it is not power sensitive. The grid runs it.

Did you turn on HDR? There is a HDR bug (from windows 10) that causes dimmer screen.
