64 bit Win7 on x100e

Hi

I have got my x100e coming with 32-bit Win7 Pro. I'd like to use 64-bit. However, I cannot find any 64bit recovery media for x100e on Lenovo website. Would anyone advise how to do this? Can I simply fresh install 64bit Win7 pro using my OEM license found in "My computer ---> properties" ?

Thanks

Re: 64 bit Win7 on x100e

I downloaded the Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit OEM Installation DVD ISO (which is Legal) and used the serial number on the COA sticker without any problems, provided you are going from 32-bit Pro to 64-bit Pro or 32-Bit Home Premium to 64-bit Home Premium.  You will have to download the necessary 64-Bit drivers from the Lenovo site.  I believe that you will also loose the ability to recover your machine with the Rescue & Recovery Hard Drive partition.

You should be able to find the COA sticker on your laptop by removing the battery.

I'm not too sure about the Licence found on your computer when going to My Computer -->> Properties.

Thanks Nacy

Is the 64-bit OEM ISO you mentioned same as common "non-OEM" installation ISO DVD? I believe OEM is identified by the license key, but not the installation DVD. Please teach if I am wrong.

Re: 64 bit Win7 on x100e

You can just use a vanilla installation media.

And there's no need to use (and waste) the license number from the sticker.

Just backup the cerificate and the lenovo key from seven 32 with  ABR

http://directedge.us/content/abr-activation-backup-and-restore

then install win7 x64 with a blank serial, then restore the activation with the same tool.

No need to activate online your copy, so win 7 x86 and x64 can be used side by side.

Re: 64 bit Win7 on x100e

Thanks Solutor. ABR looks to be a great tool. But, I am a little bit worry since Win7 is still in beta stage.

Why did you say using the license number from the sticker is wasteful? I suppose this OEM license is dedicated only for x100e. Even i dont use it, I cannot use on other PC. Please teach if I am wrong.

By the way, can I still use the sticker key after the fresh installation of Win7 64 bit from a vanilla installation media?

Thanks

Win7 is just a miracle, really it's beta was called vista.

The key on the sticker is just a plain, virgin, seven serial. You can use it on another pc, but obviously this is not legit.

Instead the keys used by lenovo to activate the oem copy are unique for all Lenovo products, but they works only if paired with a correct lenovo bios signature and the correct certificate.

The keys are different for different os versions (ultimate, pro, starter and so on) this means that all the x100e (and all the other seven ready lenovo notebook) , if installed wit (say) seven professional, are sharing the same activation key.

The bios signature is obviously permanent, what you need to have a preactivated copy are the two remaining items: the key and the certificate, abr will backup and restore them for you  with a single mouse click.

By the way, can I still use the sticker key after the fresh installation of Win7 64 bit from a vanilla installation media?

Thanks

Yes you can, as on any other seven installation, but obviously you need the online activation, and you will need to reactivate your installation if you change some HW, eg. the HDD.

Re: 64 bit Win7 on x100e

You make me clear Solutor.

I will certainly try ABR !

So, the key printed on the sticker is activation key, right?
BIOS signature is related to hardware config

How about the certification? what is the Product ID found in my computer --> properties about?

thanks again

Re: 64 bit Win7 on x100e

Where does one download the W7 Pro 64-Bit OEM installation DVD ISO? I've looked around the MS sites and did not find it? I would like to make a "clean" install w/out all the Lenvovo stuff on my PC. I have W7 pro 32-bit as supplied.

THanks for any potential URL links.

Re: 64 bit Win7 on x100e

I reinstalled Win7 pro using normal ISO (not necessary OEM, and I haven't seen any OEM ISO so far) and enter the key which was backup by ABR. it can be sucessfully activated and works fine so far. You can opt not installing any Lenovo software by using this method.

But strange thing is ARB cannot restore the key by itself. I have to enter the backup key manually. Any suggestion?

Thanks
