Re: 90w adapter leads to unusable, jumpy touchpad

Hi mellospace!

I'm talking about something different: The accessories compatibility guide spreadsheet on the page I linked to:

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/options_iso/option_compatibility_may2011.xls

I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

Oh, yes, you are right. It's there, but I don't know why it says X220 12.1". Dont think that really matters anyway. The slim adapter is there and listed as X220 compatible and it has all the model #s listed there.

Re: 90w adapter leads to unusable, jumpy touchpad

I can confirm the warbling with the non Ultraslim adapter.  However, in my case, the warbling only occurs when the laptop is running entirely on AC and the battery is not charging.  In other words, I don't hear the warbling when using the adapter and the battery is charging, but I do hear it when the battery is plugged in and not charging or when the battery is not plugged in.

This seems like a power supply issue to me and may be related to the voltage differential you noted.

Re: 90w adapter leads to unusable, jumpy touchpad

Can confirm as with others that using the 90W ultraslim creates problems with the pointer moving in a jumpy fashion.  Doesn't happen with the adapter removed.  x220 with i5 processor.  Very interesting.

Re: 90w adapter leads to unusable, jumpy touchpad

Do you think there is the potential for any damage to the laptop if I continue to use the 90W adapter just for charging the laptop when its turned off.  Its great to use the ultraslim adapter for travelling.  I was thinking I could continue to charge in the evenings and then just work with battery only power

Re: 90w adapter leads to unusable, jumpy touchpad

Having the same problem, and from what I'm seeing at Laptop Forums, a lot of other people are too.  JameZ - any feedback from engineering yet?

Same problem here - X220 (4287CTO) and the trackpad is jumpy with the 90w power supply plugged in in both Win7 & Kubuntu

Come on Lenovo, please fix!

Re: 90w adapter leads to unusable, jumpy touchpad

Just been on the phone to Lenovo and it seems they have shipped me the wrong product.

The FRU P/N on the back of my 90w AC Adapter is 41R4510 which is apparently not compatible, I should have been shiped the 41R4502 (link)

Apparently they are sending me a new one - but I'm not holding my breath as I know their customer service isn't always great.

Re: 90w adapter leads to unusable, jumpy touchpad

I don't think there have been any reports of ANY UltraSlim AC adapter model working with the X220 properly... so I doubt this will work.  However, if it does, please do let us all know. :-)

Does anyone think this 90w adapter is fine to use in the x220.

Model 42T5276

Read more about my question here.... http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X220-Can-I-Use-Power-Adapter-42T5276/m-p/458269...

Thanks.

UPDATE...The 90W AC adapter works and I have not experienced the jumpy touchpad or the warbling sound with this non-slim adapter (P/N 42T5276). By the way, it also fixed the throttling issue while using this ac adapter. Still gets the throttling if I use the 65W adapter though so definitely the throttling is because of the 65W adapter not providing enough power.
