See [X1 Carbon 2nd Gen] Where can I buy adaptive keys replacement? 20A7 / 20A8

The FRU you need is 04X6437. Unfortunately it's not in stock at the usual parts suppliers.

I found this 04X6437 - Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 2 DFR Bracket Assembly but it's not inexpensive. You may be able to find someone who is selling a defective X1C2 for parts.

They all do. [IMO one of the worst design changes in ThinkPad history.]

Reminds me of the macbook touchbar that came many years later but Lenovo did it first.

The issue is the poor design of the Adaptive Keys not necessarily the concept. My X1C2 remains in daily use as a desktop replacement. The lid stays closed. The external keyboard is of course conventional. I haven't opened the lid in some time so I don't even know, let alone care, if the plastic strip is discolored.

I have two set of new 04X6437 spare parts left from the time I owned X1c2.  Last week I opened the storage box and found they all look like this. I used to stock spare parts from IBM and do service myself before it parted away from Lenovo.

I wonder is this might be due to a leaking capacitor?

Have you explored it to see if there is some way to remove the discoloration?

On another note I will start a new topic as a vertical row of keys stopped working.  9. O. L >

I bought the CX1 2nd to use as a light travel laptop and also to hackintosh it.  It also works well with Linux
