Any suggestion about msata SSD?

I am considering add a SSD to my new X230 using the msata port. Do you have any recommendation (on capacity, brand etc.)?

Thank you in advance.

Re: Any suggestion about msata SSD?

welcome to the forum.

you may wish to join this thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/mSATA-SSD-for-my-beloved-X220/td-p/810653 even though it's titled for the x230. i'd venture that the systems are similar enough for the info to be useful.

cheers!

Re: Any suggestion about msata SSD?

Hi there Linenland,

There are are obviously many SSD manufacturers, these are two of the drives compatible with your system that are available through Lenovo:

ThinkPad 128GB SATA 6.0Gb/s 7mm Solid State Drive

-and-

ThinkPad 180GB SATA 6.0Gb/s 7mm Solid State Drive

The X230 is compatible with other 3rd party drives, I've just posted these drives, available through Lenovo to get you started.

Re: Any suggestion about msata SSD?

yes Lenovo does offer mSATA, however they are only 16/32 gigs in size, as they are used for something called expresscache.

you can go with aftermarket mSATA like Intel 310.

Re: Any suggestion about msata SSD?

Oh, I do apologize, I linked to SATA drives rather than the mSATA as originally requested.  I was having a hard time finding any mSATA SSD's on the Lenovo website but suggestions such as the Intel 310 as lead_org mentioned and the Crucial drives discussed on the forum thread that sarbin linked to are good 3rd party alternatives.

Sorry to muddle the thread with those SATA drives.

Ed

Re: Any suggestion about msata SSD?

Thank you Sarbin. It is helpful. I think cucial is a good choice. Another question: as I only want a SSD serving as a cache, what capacity do I need?

Re: Any suggestion about msata SSD?

Thanks for the information. Currently Lenovo does not offer the msata SSD option for x230 in US.
I wonder if intel 310 is a little bit too slow?
