Apple Cinema Display Crashes x301

I have an x301 and an apple cinema display.  When I try to use the Apple Cimema display it crashes my computer with a BSOD.  I'm using XP SP2.  The computer makes it through the power up process and gets past the standard XP login screen.  It BSODs about the time you expect the computer to loading the various startup drivers.  Prior to that, the display does light up and even shows the wallpaper then Boom.   BSOD.

The system does work with a standard Viewsonic or Dell monitor so it's not a problem with those.  I am using the Displayport adapter converted to a DVI connector to drive the displays.

Anyone having similar problems or has a solution for me?
