[Ask for help] Battery problem on lenovo thinkpad x1 non-carbon (1294PG)

I just installed a new non-genuine battery and I am experiencing problems with it on my laptop. Lenovo battery manager is showing the battery alternating between three different states:

(0%, 100%, "error detected").

The blinking lamp battery indicator on the top cover of the laptop is alternating between blinking orange and green as well.

I have tried updating the battery firmware, but it says that I already have the newest update:

When I disconnect the laptop from AC, the laptop turns off immediately.

Did I install a defective battery?

I hopy you can help!

Regards.

Re: [Ask for help] Battery problem on lenovo thinkpad x1 non-carbon (1294PG)

Hi Amelscape and welcome to the community,

First of all, Lenovo firmware will not work on non-Lenovo batteries.

It does look like you have a defective battery, non-genuine batteries are a hit or miss as to whether they will work or not.  May I ask what was the problem with the original battery?

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave. Thanks for the answer.

Yea, that's what I feared.

It seemed like my original battery had died on me after ~7 years of use.

Regards.

Hi,

Did it go bad over time or did it quit all at once?

Dave

Bad over time. Battery manager reports around 500 cycles though, which seems a bit low.

Regards.
