BIOS BUG. X1C7 "Configuration changed - restart system" loop after enrolled my own secureboot key

2019-12-21, 1:37 AM

My newly-bought ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th Gen (20R1) stucked into the ultimate boot loop of "Configuration changed - restart system".

The BIOS version is 1.12

Steps to reproduce:

Follow the archlinux wiki secureboot page's enrolling your own key section.

After I successfully enrolled my key, it booted into the linux once, but after the restart. The whole machine stucked into the loop.

BIOS setup can't be entered, any boot entry inaccessible.

I consider this as a BIOS Bug. Please pay attention to this issue and fix it!

Hi !

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums.

Kindly try to press the Emergency Reset Hole and observe if you'll be able to access the BIOS.

Same problem with the same steps to reproduce still exists in Thinkpad T14 with BIOS 1.05.

I'm about to send it for repair (replacement of motherboard) second time! The first time it happened I thought it was a glitch, but after second time I searched more and found this...

Same Problem here with the ThinkPad T14s Gen1 AMD.
Annoyingly, we now have to argue with the service about whether this problem was user induced...

Apparently this problem exists for more than 1,5 years now and to my knowledge there is still no fix. At the very least you could ship the affected laptops with a note hinting to this problem.

Are there any plans to fix this problem, soon?
My company requires employees to have secure boot activated with their own keys enrolled.

Apparently this also seems to be the case on Intel T14/s according to this WARNING in the Arch Wiki.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Lenovo_ThinkPad_T14/T14s_(Intel)_Gen_1#Secure_boot

@Van_Lenovo Is there any plan to fix this or to warn customers?

I was getting denied warranty an an AMD T14s the first time and a second one is in check.

This is not the lenovo quality I am used to.
