BIOS Update Error with X1 Carbon type 20A7

2016-11-24, 5:30 AM

I attempted to update the BIOS on my X1 Carbon type 20A7 using the bootable CD option.

The previous bios was 1.09 and I tried to update to 1.26 (file gruj23us.iso).

Booting from a USB gave me the error:

ASSERT c:\edk2\MdePkg\Library\BaseLib\String.c(166): String != ((void *) 0)

and then the update froze. The machine will no longer boot from the hard drive. However, it will still boot from USB.  Is there any way to get a working BIOS back on this machine? Has anyone else seen this error when doing a BIOS update?

Is it under warranty?

F1 (EFI setup) -> Boot Options -> Change boot mode to "Legacy" -> F11 to exit saving changes This should fix that error.
