Bad battery on ThinkPad X1 extreme gen.2

2020-11-18, 17:21 PM

Hey,

my battery remaining time is ridiculous. I am only getting around 90 min remaining time with no load and display brightness on low. Is this normal for 3k € computer??

Welcome to the forum.

No, it's not normal. It could be a defective battery.

Perhaps you could post the report from Battery Details [Lenovo Vantage -> My Device Settings -> Battery...]

In particular, what are the Cycle Count, Design Capacity and Full Charge Capacity? Also how old is the system?

The report shows the battery has lost about 20% of its original capacity. That's high for a one or two year old system but it isn't high enough to explain why you are now getting oniy 90 minutes on a full charge.

IIRC Lenovo's policy is to cover batteries that lose more than 20% in the first year. That policy may vary from country to country. If the system is less than one year old then it may be worth trying to get a replacement battery under warranty.

These batteries are designed to last about 500 cycles, slowly losing their maximum capacity as the cycles increase. The cycle count of 236 indicates that it has seen a lot of use. If the battery is charged to 100% then discharged to under 20% this puts a lot of strain on the battery. If your usage of the system allows it, it is possible to extend the battery life by charging it to no more than 80%. Lenovo Vantage has a feature that lets you set Battery Charge Thresholds, e.g. to stop charging when it reaches 80%.

Machine is 9 months old... Yes i use it a lot because of the job and i don't have Lenovo Vantage because of audio problems because of it. I will write to Lenovo support for warranty battery replacement. Thanks.
