Battery Drivers/Power Management -- Lenovo vs. Windows?

2021-03-24, 0:38 AM

I've been having problems with one of the two batteries in my x270, describe elsewhere.  The battery icon in the system try, and the power-management settings that it points to, are apparently all Windows software, and the drivers for the two batteries and the AC adapter are listed as Microsoft in Device Management.  Today I re-installed the Lenovo power manager and power management software (it appears they were already there).  There was no change in behavior.

In older Lenovo computers under Windows 7 I recall explicitly Lenovo power-management software being accessed from this battery icon and generally easier to use.  Everything seems different under Windows 10.  What am I missing here?  Is this Lenovo software being bypassed somehow? -- JCW2

Hi JCW2 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The Lenovo Power/Energy Management nowdays is just an add-on/shortcut to the Windows Power Option settings in most cases, even though it does come with drivers for the hardware.

Best regards

Voithos

Dear Voithos -- Does the fact that I cannot see anything branded by Lenovo (and that one of the batteries is not being correctly recognized) mean that I haven't gotten these packages installed correctly?  Otherwise, how can I tell that they are actually operational?

I note that, on my much newer Lenovo P1 Gen2, I see "Lenovo Intelligent Power" as the only listing under Settings/Power and sleep/Additional power settings/Plans shown on the battery meter, whereas I see only "Balanced (recommended)."  BTW. the P1 also lists Microsoft as the author of the driver for the only battery!  None of this is making sense to me... -- JCW2
