Re: 100% CPU load with 16GB RAM + eGPU

Unbelievable! Can someone else confirm that mperrin's solution works?

Too bad I already started to sell the parts :( I don't have a suitable GPU to test anymore.

Way too many restarts, do not you think? With my present config, I need just do it once. More like an temporary solution for me.

I agree, it's far from acceptable, yet better then re-pluging memory modules. There could be a way to reduce the number of restarts, I hope so.

May some Lenovo officials give a thought why it has to be so complicated?

If it was not clear, once you followed the process, it works normally at each restart / plug / ungplug of egpu.

Do it one, it makes it works normally every time !

I'm excited to try this out. Thanks for posting mperrin!

Now I just need to find my almost forgotten about 8GB RAM stick.

So you think the only time this process would have to be repeated is if I reinstall the OS?

These steps did not seem to remedy the problem on my x230.

The eGPU doesn't seem to function at all when the intel graphics are disabled, but it still slows the system down.

Any other x230 owners tried this?

I'm wondering if it's because I have a gtx670 4gb.

I tried this as well on my x230t and it did not work. So far the only thing that works for me is booting with the monitor disconnected from the vidock unit. I reconnect after login and select connect external display.

Hope, there will be  no premature "the problem solved" post. Do not rush to push the button. Hehe.

Re: 100% CPU load with 16GB RAM + eGPU

Yesterday I got Nvidia GT 440 with 1GB RAM for testing. First what I did, I wanted to make sure that the problems still occurs. To my very surprise x230 booted just fine with 16GB RAM, no 100% CPU issue. I still have the old BIOS 2.02 installed.

GT 440 is perhaps not a match to any of GTX series. But anyways, it overscored x230's Intel HD 4000 by factor of ~1.5 in 3Dmark benchmarks. So, seems not all GPUs are affected. I wish I still had my old GTX card to test once again.

If someone else confirm that his GPU works fine without disabling intel HD graphics, it makes sense to start collecting FAIL/SUCCESS configurations for future reference.
