Bios or boot manager options missing during start up on X1 Carbon 6th Gen 2018

2019-04-15, 7:27 AM

When start up, my device no longer shows options such as 'press enter to enter bios set up' , and no longer responds when I press f1, f2, f12 etc repeatedly.

Instead, it keeps running to open the windows log in page.

It did work fine but changed over night.

Any ways i could restore that? Thanks!

That usually means that fast startup is enabled, and you are powering on after a "normal" windows shutdown - that's more like hibernation.  Why it would change overnight is a puzzle.

Do you see the "enter" option, or does F12/F11/F?? work, on a restart?  How about if you do a SHIFT + shut down, then power on?  If that/those work, it's "normal".  If it's undesired, turn off fast startup.

@zoltanthegypsy, thanks!

the options didn't appear, and keys were unresponsive.

However, resetting the power options (via a slightly different interface and path) to default seems to do the trick for a run, and the second time the 'enter' for bios message only appears after restarting again when the first start up loads the windows log in page.

Feeling strange, I have tried resetting the device to factory setting via lenovo recovery media, but cancelled it half way as I had to move but this gets me stuck for almost 2hours (still does at the time I am typing this)

Wanted to attach some snapshots but unable to atm. Will do when able.

Here's the snapshots, for better clarity:

The recovery process has been static entirely for the past 3 hours.

Will it be OK if I just cut it completely by shutting off?

Further queries, at this stage:

1) is the device susceptible to external interference via WiFi, radio signals etc?

2)is there a way to quickly address it? I have been rendered almost completely immobile because of this

Thanks!

Thanks in advance!
