Hello world,

I'm trying to update the BIOS on the laptop with the lenovo Thinkvantage application. It continues to download the application and then it fails. Please can anyone help me?

Re: Bios update wont work?

By "download" do you mean download from the website or wont install?

What exactly is your situation? Does your system still boot to Windows?

Re: Bios update wont work?

I personall don't like updating BIOS from Windows, I always use the cd iso which Lenovo provides on the support site.

Exactly which ThinkPad do you have? Please post the Type and Model Number this will help members to help you.

Re: Bios update wont work?

Best bet is to download the update manually, plug the laptop in, close every open application, make sure nothing else is plugged into the laptop, and run the update. You can grab the update at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-76666, and it will take some time to update, so don't do anything once you get the updater flashing things.

Re: Bios update wont work?

I'd say don't upgrade the BIOS at this point unless you have an urgent issue the BIOS fixes -- 1.11 fixed the audio stuttering issue from 1.08 but introduced the problem where the brightness gets stuck, and 1.12 (in addition to what the change log says), just made the brightness problem more random.

A few users have had failed BIOS flashes from windows (while many have not had problems), so I personally wouldn't risk a BIOS update from windows. I don't have a USB CD drive either, so I use YUMI (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/) and tell it I have a non-listed ISO. It boots the updater fine.

Re: Bios update wont work?

Whenever I update the BIOS, I close all task resident applications, especially those that interface with the system on a low level like RMClock and TPFC. My antivirus also gets completely disabled before starting the BIOS update program.

Re: Bios update wont work?

Thank you kind people for the help and support. I have managed to flash the BIOS. I went and downloaded the patch from the website and it worked a treat first time round with no hang ups or anything.
