Brand new X1 CARBON wont wake from sleep mode - Urgent

I just received my brand new 3rd generation X1 carbon... but since the 1st day i received it last week, it has trouble waking from sleep mode. It usually happens every 4 - 5 times a day. I have searched online and it seems a lot of people are having this issue. I have updated BIO, checked all drivers if anything needs to be updated, even turned off intel rapid storage off, nothing works. If this problem cannot be resolved i probably wont return this laptop... priced at 2k and doesnt even work properly in its 1 st week of service.

look in the event log for a failing device driver

Try updating Intel HD driver through thinkavage shortcut or search for system update if you are using win 7 otherwise open Lenovo Companion and run a update then install new Intel HD from there this should solve your problem

everything is already up to date and the pc did come with window 10 pro installed...

I have a similar problem. My X1 Carbon is three months old and has been "going to sleep" fine until a couple of weeks ago. I would close the lid at night, presumably the laptop would "go to sleep" as I did also. The next morning I would lift the lid, and every application and browser page would appear just as I had left it the night before.

 

Recently, I have closed the lid at night and opened it the next morning to find a black screen. Nothing will wake up the screen, no touches anywhere, not even a short tap on the power button.  I would have to hold the power button down until the computer shut off. Then push the power button to start the computer.  This resulted in recovery messages and a very awkward start to the day.

 

I must say, this shakes my confidence in Lenovo and the Thinkpad experience.  Any help would be appreciated.

Rich and Jake,

I posted my experience with a black screen here before I realized that you both had made a reply to my same question on another post I made. Sorry, for not reading your answers to the other post first. I am gratified to know that this is a "known problem" with a "known solution." However, I'm not sure that i have to technical ability to solve it. I will try to locate the "event log" and I will try to understand how to repair the Intel HD driver, or the w.e app. But, it will take some effort on my part to understand this.

after going through event log for a few times, cannot find any event after the pc went to sleep...............

I have the same issue on my X1 Gen3 laptop, which uses Windows 7.  I have two symptoms:

 

(1) Windows will just freeze.  Mouse wont move.  have to hard reboot.

 

(2) I think I put the laptop to sleep (lid closed) or the screen goes black as if going to sleep.  When I go back to use it later it is stuck at the black screen.  The Fn and Power buttons are lit, but I can't do anything.  I've tried hooking it up to an external monitor to see if it was just a display issue, but it is really dead.  I have to hard reboot.

 

The only additional factors that I can think of are:

 

a. I use a Onlelink dock in the office.

b. I have a somewhat new Sierra Wireless WWAN card with Verizon service installed in the laptop.

Hi All, 

 

I too have been having this issue with a third gen X1 (20bs) running windows 10

 

whenever some action sent the unit to sleep, it would be very difficult to revive.

had to either hard reboot or close the clamshell long enough to have the computer 'fully' sleep (power light is off) 

 

at which point it could be started normally.. but it would appear to have completely shutdown rather then jusst put to sleep

 

it seems this issue has been around for a while, however there seems to be some debate as to whether its software or hardware related.. quite the sage:

personal experience, 

seems to be solved by uninstalling the lenovo power managment utility, as it seems to conflict with that of windows 10
