Re: Calling P1 and X1 Extreme users to update BIOS 1.19 - fan noise much better now!

So will it just timeout and give up at some point? Is the updater designed to do that or are we just hoping that something else will stop in the background an allow it to move on?

I don't believe it's designed to do that. Typically it will take a short while(couple minutes at most), but never like one hour - this is very unusual.

Yes, it is (unusual).

If it helps... the system is set up as a dual boot with the Win 10 (installed by Lenovo) and Pop OS 18.10 (a close variant of Ubuntu 18.10 with better power management). Both OSes are completely updated as of this morning. I ran the BIOS update from Win 10 and followed the directions to the letter (ran all updates first, no other open apps, AC power plugged in, etc). The machine is not attached to any external devices such as a docking station.

Approaching two hours and NO. The only thing moving is the fans.

Update: Approx. 3 hours in and the fans have stopped running at full blast (mostly). I pulled out the AC plug for a few minutes and then reinserted it and that seemed to cause the system to calm down--obviously not my biggest concern right now but... small victories  :/

...

and another couple of hours have passed and it is still just sitting there. Sorry to nudge but is waiting 24 hours really going to achieve anything?

Uncle... can anyone from Lenovo please point me to a support number that I can call? I've looked all over the website but cannot seem to find one or even a live support chat feature.  And the "enter your serial number for more support options" feature in the Contact Us section of the site does not seem to like the S/N I enter--which could be a result of my inability to accurately read 4pt type off of the bottom of the laptop--so my ability to pursue any other support options is getting stymied.

Thanks,

Pete

Really sorry for what you experienced, though very unusual but I fully understand how frustrated it is.

Please call 855-253-6686 for support.

or if you can send me a private message of your S/N, I can give the right machine type to you.

Aside from plb2010's issues, can other owners provide feedback on the update.

Don't upgrade unless you want to risk your laptop not functioning with docks anymore.  My X1 Extreme was working great, albeit loud fan, until the upgrade.  Now I cannot use any dock (thunderbolt or USB-C) with it.
