Calling P1 and X1 Extreme users to update BIOS 1.19 - fan noise much better now!

A dedicated BIOS (1.19) released on web, to improve the fan noise.

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n2euj11w.exe

[New functions or enhancements]
- Improved thermal function to reduce the FAN noise.

Recommend all P1 and X1 Extreme users update BIOS to 1.19.

In addition, nVidia video driver: V25.21.14.1735 is recommended to fix a known bug on nVidia Container which takes too much CPU loading occasionally.

Appreciate if you feedback your experience about how do you feel like the fan behavior change.

Thank you!

Re: Calling P1 and X1 Extreme users to update BIOS 1.19 - fan noise much better now!

I find the fans don't spin up fast enough at lower temperatures, allowing the CPU to get too hot. So, for example, the first time I run the Cinebench benchmark, I get only 1006 due to thermal throttling from slow fan curve.

The second time I run it, directly afterwards the first, the fans have spun up and I'm able to get 1158 points. Ideally, the first run would score the same as the second run, so I would like to see the fans hit higher RPMs at temperatures in the 60's and 70s sooner.

I like the fact that the very first fan level is now lowered to an inaudible 2200 RPMs, like my previous Thinkpads.

I always wondered why this was changed for the X1 Extreme.

...can anyone comment on this 1.19 update? Working as advertised / better? Does this significantly change the thermal performance with the fan noise adjustments? Should we go for the update, or simply us TP FanControl to do our own adjustments?

The first fan level is now slower.

Previously, it was 2600 RPM, which was already audible. Now it is 2200 RPM, which is inaudible.

This is something you can not achieve with TPFanControl.

Re: Calling P1 and X1 Extreme users to update BIOS 1.19 - fan noise much better now!

Has anyone experienced any problems running the update? How long did it take? I am running the update on my X1E (current bios of 1.18) and it has been sitting at the "Begin flashing..." screen for about 20 minutes now (with the fans spinning away at full speed). This seems to be the longest bios update I've ever experienced (read, a sinking feeling is setting in as the minutes tick past).

Curious what's happening on your X1E, it shouldn't take that long for a regular BIOS update. I recommend to leave it as is, wait as much time as you can, because it probably cause BIOS corruption if you forcely shut down the computer.

Give it one day, if not proceed, please take a picture of the screen and send a private message to me. we can fiture out how to help you out.

Seriously, wait a day? It's been running for about an hour now with no movement.

The screen is the typical BIOS flashing update screen. See attached.

Yes, sincerely apoligize for the inconvenience  - we have to wait until it moves on.

Forcely power off may cause BIOS corruption and brick the system.
