Can X1 Carbon 6th boot from the 2nd m.2 pcie ssd?

I know X1 Carbon 6th can add a m.2 2242 pcie ssd to the WWAN port as the extra storage in your windows.

But few of the article mention about if x1c can boot from that 2nd ssd.

My x1c 6th bios version is 1.34, can I boot from the 2nd ssd on WWAN port?

I would like to install ubuntu on that ssd, alongside with win10 on main ssd.

On the 6th gen, you can add an SSD as a data drive, but you cannot boot from it.  It needs to be NVMe and the only one I am aware of in the needed 42mm size is the toshiba RC100

Re: Can X1 Carbon 6th boot from the 2nd m.2 pcie ssd?

I saw someone use toshiba bg3 pcie 2242 ssd on wwan port, and he claims he can boot from that ssd.

But I'm not sure what bios version of his x1c 6th,

so I came here to check if there's anyone has successfully boot on 2nd ssd too.

My knowledge is not first hand.  It is what I have read.  I did try on an x1 yoga gen3, which is very similar and I couldn't see it in the BIOS to boot

Hi, I also have the same problem. Have you resolved the problem? Is it possible to boot from the 2rd SSD?

Re: Can X1 Carbon 6th boot from the 2nd m.2 pcie ssd?

The version of my BIOS is 1.37 and I don't find anywhere to make X1 boot from the 2nd m.2 pcie ssd. Finally, I gave up this idea and use ESP partition in the 1st ssd to boot the system in the 2nd ssd.

Re: Can X1 Carbon 6th boot from the 2nd m.2 pcie ssd?

Thank you, EricDracula, for your quick reply!

Seems like the X1 Extreme is a better option for such purpose. Just checked that it has two pci-e slots for m.2 2280 ssd. Also the ram is offboard with two avaliable slots in dual channel. In summary, a much more modular machine.
