Did you pay over $100 for the Fibocom 850GL card? There is a long wait for the antenna isn't it?

Haha, thanks so much for replying. I'm still debating if the upgrade is worth the cost and effort. Good luck with your upgrade!

Thanks. Finally I don´t think it´s worth it. First I thought the antenna is already in the unit as the support did tell me. As we know this isn´t the fact and the installation of the antenna is a challenge...

Just for posterity in case anyone drops by looking to find if this is possible, you can in fact install WWAN onto any 3rd Gen Yoga X1 with a camera shutter (can't say for the infrared camera, but all signs are pointing no). This includes Yogas with the HDR screen, as they use the right camera module. Haven't taken any pictures but I did write notes to myself on Reddit in case I forgot how I went about it in the future:

  • Remove the battery (three screws each speaker, one screw on the bottom of the battery)

  • Disconnect all connectors on the motherboard

  • Unscrew the motherboard according to https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/tp_x1yoga_hmm_en.pdf (don't unscrew every screw you see)

  • Remove the motherboard

  • This will allow you to remove the LCD hinge - unscrew this to separate the LCD from the chassis

  • Use a plastic prying tool (or a long fingernail) to unclip the bottom plastic trim of the LCD. You may break some of the holding clips here - there's nothing for it other than super glue.

  • Remove four screws you see here

  • There are two black metal clips that are visible. Using tools (or your fingernails), slide the LCD panel downward to unclip it from the LCD housing. There will be a flat connector behind the panel - carefully unlatch the connector without ripping it.

  • Antenna board will slot into the empty spaces next to the WLAN antenna board. There's only one way to place these without the antenna leads getting twisted in awkward places (blue on the right, red on the left)

  • Route the antenna leads along the outside of the housing. You will need to push these into the empty channels there and it will stretch (and possibly damage) the sheathing

  • Unscrew the hinge so you can pull out the retaining clip that holds the antenna leads and LCD connector. Route the WWAN antenna leads through there, then pop the retaining clip back in. Rescrew the hinges back on.

  • Go backwards and reassemble everything.

  • Gotcha: When screwing the hinge back into the chassis, be sure to line up the pegs on the hinges to the notches controlling the keyboard retracting mechanism

I'm using a T-Mobile tablet SIM and that works as intended.

How do you like your LTE connection? Pros and Cons??

It sounds a bit complicated to install it though?

I just bought 20LD0017US and I think it doesn't come with LTE. It is not very important for me but after paying that much money, I think it should have been added to the system.

Thanks for the detailed info! Any chance you could provide a parts list to go along with your instructions? I'd like to give this a shot myself.
