Cannot use trackpad when I plug mouse, option to turn on grayed out

2019-03-18, 21:08 PM

Hello,

I have new TP X1 Yoga (3rd gen) and whenever I have a mouse plugged, I cannot use the trackpad. This wouldn't be a problem, but since I have a wireless Logitech mouse, I tend to keep the wireless receiver dongle always on to avoid losing it, and even with the mouse turned off this disrupts the trackpad.

Is this a known bug? Is there something I can do to fix it?

Cheers and thanks in advance,

Leo

Welcome to the forums.

Do you have "Leave touchpad on when mouse is connected" checked in settings?

Sorry for bumping this but I've tried everything except a bluetooth mouse. Trackpad is disabled no matter what is the setting whenever I plug a wired mouse our the Logitech RF receiver/dongle.

I just tested on my X1Y3 I plugged in a wired Dell optical mouse.  My trackpad works even when the mouse is plugged in.,  Have you tried both the left and right usb ports?  Are all Vantage updates been installed?

Yep, everything updated. I tried both USB-A ports, I’ll try to find a usb-c adapter to plug a wired mouse or the Logitech receiver on the left side as well.

Weird I plugged into USB A port and it works for me.  I dont know maybe toggle the touchpad on and offi or the setting to choose leave touchpad on after mouse plugged?  Have you tried rebooting?  Not turn off and on but choose restart since windows 10 with fast start up turned on is really not turning off?

Tried rebooting, leaving the setting on, off, etc...

Just noticed something else: Synaptics Touchpad settings (linked from Settings menu) hangs at this screen, with or without mouse connected:

Adding insult to injury: the trackpad works just for a few seconds even with the mouse plugged on after booting Windows 10.

I've uninstalled the Synaptics driver and restarted my PC. Both devices worked at the same time, but no settings where available for the trackpad and there was an annoying window telling me that it coudn't find the trackpad, etc... The system installed the driver automatically and then after reboot, same situation as before.

Sorry only thing I can think of is uninstalling the driver and software for Synaptics and rebooting then install the below driver manually.  To uninstall see readme instructions at the below link.
