Carbon Touch, Win 8, Windows log on with Fingerpring is greyed out

After last week's patches, I can no longer use my fingerprint to log on to Windows. The setting is greyed out under Change Biometric Settings. It message hints that you have to be an admin.

My account is the only account and is Admin

All System Update and Windows Updates have been applied

System worked as expected until last week.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled all biometric software including clearing data in BIOS.

Fingerprint and Password Manager work correctly in all other ways, applications, web sites, etc.
The only issue is with the log on to Windows.

Re: Carbon Touch, Win 8, Windows log on with Fingerpring is greyed out

Hi, stmiller

I found a page here that may provide some assistance. During patches and updates, a change could have occurred in the group policy of the machine, which would render the setting shown in the photo unusable. I would check this through the Local Group Policy Editor. To get here, open the Start menu and type Edit group policy in the search bar. Open up the program link of the same name when it appears. From here, navigate to Computer Configuration ► Administrative Templates ► Windows Components ► Biometrics. Make sure that the devices have not been disabled here.

Hope it helps,

Adam

Re: Carbon Touch, Win 8, Windows log on with Fingerpring is greyed out

Thank you, Adam. That does give me progress. All 4 settings under Biometrics were 'not configured' . Enabled and Disabled were my options. I enabled all of them, but Allow users to log on to windows using their passwords is still greyed out. Now, Do not allow is also greyed out.
I uninstalled the FP software including all stored data and used System update to bring it back. However, the problem persists.

Re: Carbon Touch, Win 8, Windows log on with Fingerpring is greyed out

Hi again, stmiller

What exactly were the patches that were performed last week? If possible, can you look at the history of all updates and post what they were? There may be an update from Windows or Lenovo that is causing conflict with the fingerprint  reader and the Windows login. You can also try rolling the system back before these updates through System Restore and see if that helps the issue.

Hope it helps,
Adam
