Closing lid makes external / secondary display show garbage

2021-04-22, 8:50 AM

Hi All,

I am using the following:

  • OS: Windows 10 Enterprise 1909
  • Display Adapter: Intel HD Graphics 620, Intel driver version 25.20.100.6472
  • Displays:
    • Built-in display
    • External display on HDMI
  • Resolution: 1920x1080 60Hz (1080p)
  • Power options: Do nothing for closing lid in both plugged-in and unplugged states

Laptop HDMI is connected to a Pioneer SC-LX88 AV receiver, then the output goes to an LG monitor.

Photo attached about the symptom.

If I open the lid, things get fine.

I assume Hz issue, as the amplifier only supports up to 60Hz.

Thanks for any hint.

Just noticed:

Similar issue if I choose "Second screen only" or "Extend" after pressing Win + P.

Only works when "Duplicate" is selected.

Found the solution for Extended screen:

1. Right-click on desktop

2. Display settings

3. Advanced display settings

4. Choose the right display

5. Display adaptor properties

6. List all modes - select compatible mode (for me, it was on 74Hz, while my amplifier can only support 60Hz seemingly, still the monitor capabilities were communicated on HDMI signal. Interesting.)

Still looking for a solution for "Second screen only" mode.

I cannot configure it as I cannot see what happens. Any configuration file I could modify?

Hello cybericius,

Greetings

I suggest that you share the machine type model / MTM (ex. 81C70000RK) from the sticker as it would help us detail more about your machine variant.

Update us soon as convenient

Regards,

It's a general video/display driver issue.

I quickly made myself a display driver with 60Hz cap to solve it. You can close it.
