Configuring boot sequence on X1 carbon 6th Gen

2019-01-26, 12:08 PM

Hi, any guide/ advice to adjust boot sequence in bios configuration, and prioritize USB in a boot up?

trying a clean Windows install using a usb, however it does not initiate installation once I have selected the usb in boot menu.

Thanks!

Hi adamh26,

In order to allow USB boot, you have to disable Secure Boot feature in BIOS. Check out steps from this thread.

Thanks. Should I disable network boot / pci lan too? If so, how do I do that?

Should I disable network boot / pci lan too?

Depends on your needs. Generally just leave them there won't cause any problem.

how do I do that?

In BIOS boot order page, highlight the target device and press "Shift+1"

Thanks! Have tried both enabling and disabling secure boot in bios, as well as switching the priority of the USB device to the top. Still unable to initiate a clean install. Is there another workaround? Or would you advise me to redo the USB installation media? Thanks !

As a workaround, you may consider Win10 "Reset this PC" option instead of re-installation from USB. By this option, you can wipe the system drive and setup Win10 from the very beginning.

adamh26,

what error do you see once you attempt to install the OS from USB device? How did you prepare the bootable drive for installation?
