Correct RAM amount?

2009-05-29, 18:55 PM

I just received my x301 - was supposed to have 4 GB of RAM.    Reads only 2.96 GB of RAM.

Is there any reason it reads only 2.96 vs. say 3.0 or. 4.0?

Is there any way to read / check the type of RAM (without opening)?

welcome to the forum!

32-bit OSes can only address approximately 3GB of your system memory.   you will need to switch to a 64-bit OS to access all 4GB.

you can check the amount and type of memory using CPU-Z.   the X301 utilizes DDR3-1066 modules.

Thanks.  4.0 GB physically present - only shows 2.96 when I check general information.  I guess it only shows what it is able to see?
