Correcting low audio volume in X220 speakers

To correct the low audio volume in your X220 speakers, open the 'Sound' control panel (START > CONTROL PANEL > HARDWARE AND SOUNDS > SOUND).  Once open, click on the 'Speakers' device, then click the 'Properties' button.

In the Properties window, click the 'Enhancements' tab, then check the box for 'Loudness Equalization'.

Click the 'Apply' button, then 'OK'.  Close the Sound control panel.

NOTE: 'Bass Boost' will reduce some of the "tinny" sound associated with these speakers at the expense of some volume level.  Feel free to experiment with enhancement settings until you find a combination you like.

Some users may find below works without Conexant Smart Audio.

  • To get maximum volume out of the X220 speakers, the above setting can be used with or without to Conexant Smart Audio software to correct sound levels.  The two are mutually exclusive.  One does not need the Conexant Smart Audio driver installed for the above feature to be effective.

If it doesn't, try this below as suggested by one of our community user:

  • Go to Control Panel -> Smart Audio  and clicked the picture for the equalizer (farthest on right) and raised all the bars all the way up to the top.

What's DOS?

Well, we actually had that checked and it was still too low.

We went into the Control Panel -> smartaudio  and clicked the picture for the equalizer (farthest on right) and raised ALL the bars ALL the way up to the top.

Believe me, that did the trick.   Louder for sure.

My conexant speakers have 0 enhancements to uncheck, and Smart Audio has no eq (despite frequently updating the drivers). I'm ready to toss this machine into a lake

I don't have the enhancement tab.
