Re: Critical problems with X1 Carbon updated to Windows 8.1

2013-10-20, 19:23 PM

Bill I downloaded and installed the WiDi driver you posted.  It did not solve the problem (external monitor not working).

I get this error reported from Intel HD 4000 driver

"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)".

Now trying to decide between riding  the storm out or biting the bullet and revert back to 8.0.

Based upon my lack of luck with the Think 3.0 hub and now this I am really PO'd at MS, Intel and Lenovo.

Feeling like a Guinea Pig

Brightness control with Fn F8/F9 does work on my X1C, the USB 2.0 port still doesn't, neither does the camera or the fingerprint reader.

I left the dock at the office so I could not make any experiences during the weekend, but will try again next week, and will wait one or two weeks for updated drivers from Lenovo. If in 2 weeks the problems aren't solved, I'll repave the OS.

Re: Critical problems with X1 Carbon updated to Windows 8.1

2013-10-20, 20:03 PM

I've just noticed another issue based on another thread on these forums:

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Windows-8-1-and-mobile-broadband/m-p/1273229/highlight/false#M52624

I'm sure I've seen the mobile broadband option once after the update, but it is no longer displayed. It may be a reboot thing, since the update to 8.1 sometimes not even the USB 3.0 port does work, I reboot the ocmputer once or twice and then the USB 3.0 port comes back. But never the 2.0...

X1 Carbon 3443CTO, owned about 10 months now.

External display not working from dock.  Everything else seems to work.

Final Edit:  Updating the displaylink software did the trick.

I have the same problem with the usb dock. My X1C was in the service center, they said that all is okay. But it isn't. Now I will wait with upgrading to Windows 8.1 until the reports in the community are better.

My problem is: I like this machine, really. But I will be more careful when I'll buy a new laptop in the future.

Re: Critical problems with X1 Carbon updated to Windows 8.1

All,

Sorry to hear you have had so many issues.   With regard to Win 8.1, much as one would think all the testing would be finalized and everything lined up and ready to go on day 1, it has not been the case with any Windows release.   With Windows 7 and 8, despite extended beta / RTM periods, there are still dependencies with drivers that take several weeks, perhaps a month or more to fully work out.

Version 1.3.0.22 of settings dependency went up last week and seems to contain a number of fixes....

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS031946

Version 1.3.0.22

  • [Important] Uninstall Mobile Hotspot if OS is Windows8.1 because Windows8.1 has same function as Mobile Hotspot.(Mobile Hotspot)
  • [Important] Remove the battery health mode feature from Lenovo Settings Power GUI. If you enabled it in a old version, it will be disabled automatically when you upgrade to a new package. The policy of the battery health mode by the active directory, the support is continued. (Power)
  • (New) Automatic Camera Mute works in Windows 8 but it is not supported in Windows 8.1.(Camera/Audio)
  • (Fix) Fixed the issue that TPKNRSVC.EXE might crash.(Camera/Audio)
  • (Fix) Fixed the issue that camera resolution is downgraded when Camera Plus is enabled.(Camera/Audio)
  • (Fix) Fixed an issue where the battery of the keyboard dock may completely discharge when the enabled the battery health mode. (Power)
  • (Fix) Fixed main service crashes when WMI service is disabled/stopped or corrupted.(Mobile Hotspot)

Best regards,

Mark

Re: Critical problems with X1 Carbon updated to Windows 8.1- EXTERNAL MONITORS DO NOT WORK

2013-10-21, 18:12 PM

Mark:

My problem is isolated to Intel HD 4000 display dirver. Windows turns it off becasue it is not operationg properly "error 43".

I have the most recent  Version 1.3.0.22 of settings dependency. It does nothing for the display driver error 43. Intel tells me it technically is not their driver, it is Lenovo's. Nothing suggested on this thread has helped. I am not a Pro IT kind of guy and most of this stuff is over my head.

I received disks to go back to 8.0 from Lenovo North America this morning.

I will waste another 4 hours (on top of the plus 20 hours to date)saving files, reinstalling  APS and so on if I "go backwards" to 8.0. JUST TO GET AN EXTERNAL MONITOR TO WORK.  Nobody has been able to help, Not Lenovo, Not Intel, Not MS. The intel tech says it is a Lenovo issue. speak with them. The MS tech says it is a Lenovo issue speak with them. The Lenovo tech says " go back to 8.0 if an external monitor is "so" important to you.

Vague answers like several weeks or months are not acceptable in my opinion. I compare it to the 2 USB 3.0 external hubs I purchased that now collect dust due to the same kind of (video) issues. Too much time wasted trying to get something to work as "plug and play" like advertised.

Re: Critical problems with X1 Carbon updated to Windows 8.1

Thanks Mark, glad to hear from you.

I have reinstalled the update you have suggested but everything that wasn't working before, still doesn't work. For instance, the g6c812ww.exe (integrated camera driver for Windows 8.1) doesn't even install, after unpacking and starting to install, at aroun 80% of the progress bar i get "Can not find the device, Abort install". As mentioned before, fingerprint reader isn't recognized either, neither does the USB 2.0 port.

Then there are the issues with the Thinkpad USB 3.0 Dock, mine only has the USB ports working, it's surely the most expensive USB hub I've ever purchased...

Re: Critical problems with X1 Carbon updated to Windows 8.1

Mark,

I have installed the Thinkpad USB3 Dock v10711 software in your post and I have also installed the Displaylink 7.4 M2 software on my Thinkpad X1 Carbon touch after upgrading to Windows 8.1 pro.

My monitors, keyboard and mouse work fine through the USB dock, but I can't get the Ethernet over USB to work.

I have uninstalled and re-installed both of the software updates, but the Ethernet will not function. Right not the Lenovo Ethernet over USB doesn't even appear in my device manager. Any thoughts or dedicated driver to get this to function?

Thanks,

Joel

Re: Critical problems with X1 Carbon updated to Windows 8.1

I also have problems with the X1 3460 CJG. Sleep mode (when closing the screen) or pushing powerbutton while running is not working. If i close the lid and open it again the machine wont start. The wireless network is only working some times. I have to reconnect to get it to work. The camera is not working with Cisco Jabber Video (but that could be cisco's fault for all i know)

I have tried different drivers and solutions. This should be adressed quickly by Lenovo support.

These URLs are interesersting in this regard.
