Display Drivers for X270

2019-11-07, 22:38 PM

Sorry if this has been covered before.

I have a few problems which include the display driver restarting at odd moments.  I'd like to update the Intel 620 display driver but the one in use is the latest version supplied by Lenovo (ver 25.20.100.6472).

Does anybody know if there are any problems with removing this driver and using the latest Intel DCH drivers instead?

I'm currently on Windows 10 1903 Build 18362.418.

I am surprised the Lenovo driver is that far out of date, because 1903 introduced display driver issues that require a driver update on most systems.

Intel is no longer releasing non-DCH drivers, so you might as well try the latest one (linked below) and see if it resolves your issue.

Intel's driver installer checks to see if you are running an OEM (e.g. a Lenovo)  driver, and if so will give you a compatibility error, so to install the latest DCH driver from Intel, you must first switch to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver as detailed below..

Before starting, download the latest Intel DCH driver for your graphics adapter and disconnect any external monitors for the time being.

  • Right-click on Start and select Device Manager

  • Click on "Display Adapters" to expand, and then double-click on your Intel HD Graphics adapter

  • Select the Driver tab -> "Update Driver" -> "Browse my computer for driver software" -> "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer"

  • Select “Microsoft Basic Display Adapter”

  • Click “Next” (note that your screen resolution will likely change when it switches to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver).

  • Close Device Manager

You should now be able to install the latest Intel DCH driver installer successfully.

Thanks for the advice.

I've done as suggested, everything seems good and (so far) the display crashes have stopped.

I did contact Lenovo about the driver a couple of months ago.  All they had to say was that there may be an update but no idea when.

Thanks again.
