Displayport to DVI-D Monitor

2011-07-10, 11:55 AM

Hello,

Does anyone know if the Displayport on X220 & Ultrabase3 supports DP++? In other words, can I use a passive DP2DVI cable to connect them to a DVI-D Monitor? Note that Lenovo sells a passive DP2DVI cable from StarTec but do not specify compaitibility (http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?GroupID=38&Code=0A61235&current-category-id=8D61B051AF3641CBAF4C38ADE473D358&tab=1)

Thanks,

Yair

I think the passive (cheaper) DP to DVI cables will only work with monitors with resolutions up to 1920x1200, Single-Link DVI.

If you need to drive a monitor with larger resolution like 2560x1600 that use Dual-Link DVI like a Dell 3007WFP you'll need one of the active adapters which cost like $100-150 depending on the source.

yes it works with passive adapter (well that is the only thing that Lenovo sells). The passive adapter can only support single link DVI as mentioned by HiVolt.

I have an hp 30 inch LP 3065 monitor which has three dual-link DVI-D inputs with HDCP over digital DVI2. I have an X230 Thinkpad with a Ultrabase 3 port replicator. I understand that the VGA out is useless as DVI-D is digital only so can I use the Display port to output onto this monitor and if so can you direct me to the right cable to purchase. If this is not possible, is there an alternative port replicator I can buy that has a DVI out such that I can plug it into my DVI-D monitor?
