Do I need to unplug and replug HDMI cable for external display/projector to work with X1E 4K?

2019-04-03, 0:51 AM

Hi, on my Yoga C930, once I have woke up the laptop from sleep, external 4K TV shows that there is no input signal. I need to unplug and replug the HDMI cable for the external display to get signals from the laptop again. How about the X1E with 4K screen?

Also, for the X1E with 4K screen, does connection to projectors work 100% of the time? My Yoga C930 doesn't.

On Windows 10, HDMI cables are connected automatically, and projectors works 100% of the time, for me at least.

On Linux, it depends. The HDMI port and USB-C video port are directly wired to the NVIDIA GPU. Since NVIDIA driver and hybrid grphics support are lacking in Linux, if you use hybrid graphics mode, some distros will have trouble detecting new displays.

Thanks. Do you think my problem is due to the external usb-c to hdmi adapter rather than having a built-in hdmi adapter? I wonder if it is better to get a laptop with built-in hdmi 2.0 port.

If I recall corretly, I got Nvidia graphics and hybrid graphics working using  POP OS. Maybe you can try.

I believe the built-in hdmi on X1 Extreme is HDMI 2.0.
