Early life failures of Union Memory M2 SSD Drives in X380 Yogas

So far, we have had 8, x380 Yogas with Union Memory branded M2 drives that failed in the first 2 to 3 weeks of their life. All of the user's data has been lost on all 8 of these machines. Any one else having this experience?

Sorry for this trouble.  Can you please post a picture of the label from one of these drives?  There are a couple different Union Memory drive models.

What I found out is that there's a known firmware bug which causes that drive (Union Memory AM6672) to fail.  The firmware update to fix this problem was released last week:  https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/ch/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-X-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-...

 

The firmware update will prevent this failure.  Now I'm asking whether it's possible to somehow apply this update to a drive that already failed.

Thanks for the quick response. We will start planning to get this update pushed out. It would also be great if the FW update fixes the failed drives and allows the drive to function again.

Unfortunately, the FW update can't fix a failed drive.
