Endless repairs and no replacement (Carbon X1 6th generation)

2020-09-29, 17:10 PM

Since last year I am the 'proud' owner of a Lenovo Carbon X1 and have since been blessed with endless repairs.... Having owned the laptop since one and a half year there have been six incidents and whereby the motherboard has been replaced three times. Which of course gives you a lot of confidence in this wonderful machine. The latest incident is a 'BSOD' and now been waiting for a solution since two and a half weeks. Have made the suggestion to Lenovo to replace this wonderful machine, however they believe it is better idea to repair this lemon of a machine again.

This whole process is becoming very frustrating and it is unbelievable that after so many expensive repairs Lenovo is not considering a replacement of this lemon. Who should I or can I reach out to, to get some helpful assistance with this?

Lost all my confidence in Lenovo and my laptop and hoping someone at Lenovo can help and restore my confidence in Lenovo again.

Hello @JR001  Welcome to Community,

Sorry that you've had a poor experience, I'd like to help if I can. Unfortunately I cannot find any cases in our system using the email you have registered in your forum account, perhaps you could post your latest case number?

As I can't find any cases I don't know exactly which X1 Carbon you have to know whether or not the below service tip is relevant to your current situation, it is something which has recently arisen causing problems with multiple systems, so please review in case it is relevant and perhaps solves your issue. It is the very first service tip in this post; https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Recently-Released-Service-Tips-Read-Only/Service-Tips-Released-2020-09-14-2020-09-20/m-p/5040070

Please note that you can reasonably expect replacement of this laptop after three motherboard replacements. Probably a fourth replacement is on its way, however I do not trust the reliability of this machine any more.

Thanks for that.

And Ouch! mea culpa 6th Gen in the subject, I totally missed that. Could you check your BIOS settings and ensure things are in accordance with the service tip, perhaps just select BIOS defaults and observe?

The laptop does not work anymore it has a Blue Screen of Death as mentioned above. Sorry to say it is a piece of crap for which we paid EUR 2,200, having been repaired for five times already and now Lenovo wants to repair it for the sixth time. Replacement would be the way to go.

Hello,

Thanks for posting the service number, I was able to find it in our system and do see that a complaint has been opened and a Case Manager assigned. You need to please address any questions or concerns you have to the Case Manager, they are best situated to help resolve your situation.

@ Andy_Lenovo:

I am not satisfied with their follow-up and response time, this is the reason why I started this topic on this forum. We understand that for the sixth repair four parts have been ordererd for my lemon of a machine. All the repairs have probably cost more than if they would just replace this piece of crap. The expenses incurred by Lenovo are more than just the repair costs, you now have a dissatisfied customer who will likely not purchase any further products from this brand. As for me it currently is the complete distrust in the laptop and Lenovo at this point. Would a refund of the purchase price perhaps be an option (including damages)?

In one and a half year:

6 incidents

3 motherboard replacements (and a fourth is on its way)

2 power adapter replacements which were short-circuited by the machine

It is beyond ridiculous at this time.

@ Andy_Lenovo: The case manager does not provide the desired solution and I am not happy with their follow-up and response time. Your intervention would be much appreciated.

Andy_Lenovo: we have received an e-mail from the Case Manager today with an offer to refund the purchase price of the laptop and they will take it back. Will keep the forum updated on these positive developments.
