Re: Excessive Battery Drain while ThinkPad X1 Yoga Laptop Sleeps

Regarding the 80% max charge issue, I just want to throw this out there to eliminate some possibilities.  Did you adjust the settings for the battery saver feature?  Sorry, I do not have my machine with me at work, so I do not remember exactly what this function is called.  In an attempt to prolong the long-term battery life, it prevents the battery from charging unless it falls below some percentage (default seems to be 95%).  Maybe yours is set to some value less than 80, so it isn't charging.  Worth checking out if you haven't already.

Thank for the replies and suggestions. Didn't know that about the battery saver issue - and I hadn't run the Lenovo support utility to update drivers / bios out of the box, so I've done that and opened a ticket at this point, to at least reserve the right to possibly return the unit under their 30 day sale term. I'm hoping to hear back from Lenovo support soon, and will update if I get a satisfactory resolution.

Not sure what happened in the latest update, but the laptop is back to excessive battery drain on modern standby on Windows. No one seems to have gotten a constructive response from Lenovo to tackle to issue beyond the standard "Update to the latest drivers" and to "select the correct settings."

Also, if the X1Y3 is supposed to support Linux, it is clearly failing if the computer can't sleep properly on Linux.

New BIOS update and no mention of S3 sleep in the changelog. Is this a joke?

Has Lenovo even acknowledged this issue yet?

It's been 73 days since the X1 Carbon 6th Gen got the S3 sleep option in BIOS, yet the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen still doesn't have it with BIOS 1.27.

The lack of S3 sleep for the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen should not be ignored, and the discussion should not be scattered and forgotten.

Please consider merging this thread with a master thread regarding S3 sleep fix: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Yoga-3rd-Gen-S3-Sleep-Linux/m-p/4235264

I raised this issue with support, and more or less they told me I could exchange the laptop if it was in the original 30 day purchase period. I initiated a return within the period to get things started, and am still debating sending it back or asking for a refund and returning it.

No technical solutions were offered.

Okay, Lenovo, seriously, screw you, I'm sick and tired of this. Since this laptop basically doesn't have a working sleep mode, I shut it down completely yesterday when I still had 51% of battery left (no hibernate, but full shutdown). When I powered it on just now, the battery was completely drained down to 0%.

Seriously, I've never been so unsatisfied with any device ever, and I've had many laptops of different brands that I've cursed a lot about, but this really takes the cake. (I mean, it isn't just the battery. The stylus was broken from day one, the keyboard gets stuck when swtiching between tablet and laptop mode, one of the USB-C ports has a loose contact, the "HDR" screen is just a marketing fraud and I never managed to get more than 5 hours of battery life out of it.)

I'll just cut my losses and sell it and get a Surface or just anything else. And I recommend everyone to do the same because Lenovo clearly doesn't care about their customers and it would be naïve to expect this situation to change.

Lenovo, please add proper S3 support to the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen BIOS as you did for the X1 Carbon Gen 6. Please.

Lenovo USB Selective Suspend Patch

choose ThinkPad X1 Yoga 3rd

I don't know why Lenovo is hiding this in their consumer driver dowload page.
