Re: Fake AC Adapter?

I own an X220 and the connection on the charger has recently started to cut out. I ordered a new charger from Amazon and received it today. The charger wasn't sold by Amazon but the order was fulfilled by them so I assumed it was a good bet to be real. Unfortunately I think it's a fake. I've attached a picture of the label. The Velcro strap is also black, not gray.

Is anyone able to confirm its authenticity, or lack thereof?

Re: Fake AC Adapter?

This thing is definitely a fake. manufactrued for Lenovo? Also the FCC rule part looks poorly printed.

Fake AC Adapter?

Re: Fake AC Adapter?

Why did you decide the charger is a fake?

For me several things look a bit strange:
1. Big serial number on the bar-code label should include laptop ASM p/n, 92P1156 in this case. Compare with 02K1506, in any case it's not Lenovo p/n.

2. The "serial number" under the bar-code is incorrect totally - the number of symbols, the structure.

3. The charger manufacturing date is absent on the label. It should be placed under the text in the bottom rectangle.

Also Lenovo logo should have registered trademark symbol ( Ⓡ ), as well as "Trademark of Lenovo" should begin with "Registered" word.
Finally many parts of the label should have inscriptions in China, from the top (under the charger wattage) to the bottom (under the rectangle I mentioned above).

Re: Fake AC Adapter?

Jin,

I agree with your supervision about "FCC Rules" text, looks like absolute bosh.
But "Manufactured for Lenovo" is true, my charger has the same text on the label, factory (fab) related (?) text "DCWP CM-2" is the same too.

Re: Fake AC Adapter?

It wrote manufactrued on the adapter not manufactured. Spelling mistake.

Re: Fake AC Adapter?

Thanks all, I agree that it is definitely fake. That's a good catch on the spelling mistake, I didn't see that. I originally thought the Lenovo logo looked off. The plastic casing has less of a textured feel than the charger it is replacing. The quality of printing on the label seemed lower, and the background color is different. In addition, the Velcro strap on the cable is black instead of grey. The string under the barcode is 20 rather than 22 characters.

In case anyone shopping for an AC adapter on Amazon stumbles onto this thread, the seller name was BEST ADAPTERS.

> That's a good catch on the spelling mistake,

The French is even worse, e.g. "utiuser" for utiliser and "drdinateur" for ordinateur ;)

You'd think the fakers could afford to buy a genuine adapter from which to make a photograph of the label.
