Firewire audio Buffer Underruns - X1 Extreme Gen 2

2021-03-18, 14:02 PM

Hi all,

I always had buffer underrun issues playing audio files on an external audio card (Echo Audiofire 4) connected via firewire to the thunderbolt connector by a series of two adpters (working solution here). For firewire driver I used this known working solution. I don't have any problem with any another notebook different from X1 Extreme gen 2.

I tryed any buffer size configuration from 64 to 1024. The biggest problem is that at a certain point the audio completely stops, also if it continues to play on the player (this happends 70% of times I play one audio file or a youtube video), the only way to have it again is switching off the audio card and on again.

thanks in advance.

Alessio

Hello alfa84,

Greetings

Is it the same when you try a different player or application?
Kindly check support site for updated driver making sure that the version is the same offered from the website.

Also load BIOS default settings, then save before exiting
Update us how it goes

Hello Lorenzo,

yes I obtained the same result with vlc, chrome (youtube), groove, amazon music, using the most recent drivers.I resetted defaults on BIOS and saved, the problem is still there.

In the mainwhile I've installed the Intel Management Engine Fimware 12.0.72.1757 released on 16/3.

The sound stops also with this update.

I'm seeing some optional updates in windows update tool that don't appar on lenovo vantage (see photo).

Is it possible that some of them are usefull?

In the mainwhile, I'm testing the new (today) x1 extreme firmware 1.38 (available only on support site and not on Vantage). It rolls back the ECP to 1.22.

For now I'm noticing much less buffer underruns, but sadly the playback stop problem is still there

Sorry for the late reply.

What is the windows version and build installed on the computer?

Have you updated the drivers and firmware of Echo Audiofire 4?
