Fix for Screen Flickering on Charger Plug/Unplug [X1E Gen 2]

2020-09-14, 14:40 PM

Hey all, just wanted to post this as I had spent the last few months searching for a solution to my screen flickering for a few seconds when switching from battery to AC power and vice versa on my Thinkpad X1 Extreme Gen 2.

Everything I had found had said to make sure your refresh rate on battery and when plugged in where the same, they definitely where but I was still having the issue.

Finally managed to fix it today after I noticed the "colour space" setting change when I plugged in my laptop with the display information screen open in Windows 10 settings.

To fix it I just had to enable HDR while on battery:

  • Settings > System > Display > Windows HD Colour Settings > Scroll to "Battery options" section > change the setting to "Optimise for image quality".
  • Alternatively you can just disable HDR completely under display settings.
