Full size desktop keyboard that emulates the feel of the keyboard of the Thinkpad X1 Carbon 7th Gen

2019-06-22, 4:20 AM

Hi there,

I have been using an X1 carbon 7 gen  Laptop for over 6 months, and I absolutely love the tactile feel, sound and the crispness of the keys! On ocassion, I have the HDMI of my laptop plugged into a larger 38" monitor, wich it powers well.

I am loooking for a desktop/ full size keyboard, that would emulate the feel and satisfaction I get from using the keyboard of my X1 Carbon 7th Gen. I have gone through several, including the Lenovo 500 Series. Nothing compares or even comes close.

Does anyone have any suggestions? It could be a 3rd party manufacturer or even Lenovo....doesn't matter...I thoroughly enjoy typing on my laptop, and would like to have the same experience when doing it on the fuller size keyboard.

Any advice, suggestions or insight will be greatly appreciated?

Thank you kinldy in advance!

Shahmn

Hi Shahmn, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

There's the ThinkPad Keyboard.

That's most likely a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th Gen you have there. The 7th Gen has only been shipping for a week :smileyhappy:.

I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

Hi Bananaman,

Thank you for your insight. I apologize; you may very well be right that my laptop is a 6th Gen (under a year old); it's an i7, and I believe in my mind that's where the mis-step happened. I actually came across the keyboard last night  -that you recommend below. I ordered it. I wish there was a wireless version.I like the zero-clutter- clean look on the desk.

I'm hoping for a good experience!

Kind regards

Shahmn.

There IS a wireless version. Doesn't seem to be available from lenovo.com at the moment!

I saw that there was one available for almost $300. A rivate party offer I believe. I'd feel more comfortable buying that from Lenovo.

IDK why, the bluetooth wireless verion of this keyboard  disappeared from the Lenovo site 6 months to a year ago and has been gone ever since.  I own two of them and they are great little keyboards.  The USB only version is identical to the BT version + cable.  Gut says Lenovo quietly discontinued the BT version and yanked it from the site.  That private seller on Amazon, if I recall correctly,  is asking about 2x what it was selling on the Lenovo site for...

Interesting it appears here but is no where to be found on the US site  YMMV -> https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/accessories-and-monitors/keyboards-and-mice/keyboards/KBD-BO-Compact-BT-KBD-w-o-NFC/p/4Y40U90599

Hi Skywalkr,

Thanks for your response and insight! I would have loved to get the BT version, but could not find it, and then when I did from the private seller, as you saw, was too pricey.

I ordered the USB cabled version that I should be getting on Monday. Thank you for showing me the one on Lenovo's Australian site; I'm curious if that is something I can buy on that site, and have it shipped to the US.

Have you ever bought something on a foreign domain site, and had it shipped elsewhere?

Thanks

S

The X1C7 is a different keyboard experience than 6. the vertical key stroke is a bit less. Everything else is the same.

Some people may like some might not if they are in LOVE with the 6.
