Going above 4k monitor using X1 Carbon (5th gen) and Thunderbolt 3 Dock?

2019-08-08, 6:20 AM

Hello,

I have the X1 Carbon (5th gen) and am looking at purchasing an ultrawide 5k monitor. I then realized, my setup may not support a monitor above 4k. I have the Thunderbolt 3 workstation dock, and know the user manual says I can run a 4k monitor. So does this mean I would not be able to run a 5120x2160 ultra wide?

Thanks!

Hi Astroboy314! Welcome to our forums community! The screen is not compatible with 5k display and most likely your computer will not detect the monitor. You can check the manual of your computer here: https://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_X1_Carbon_5th_Gen.
