High disk activity, slow speeds.

2016-01-09, 12:37 PM

So, I recently got my 3-gen carbon with the regular 256 SSD, and I see some strange values in task manager. The laptop itself is rather slow, and constantly idling on 40-50% (reported by taskmgr) with as low as 2-4mb/s activity. If I try to do more intensive work, or right at startup, I see numbers as high as 80-90% with a hillarous speed of 10 mb/s.

What is happening? I tried installing a clean Win10 aquired trough my dreamspark subscription to no avail, the issue persists. What is this?

I have noticed this issue on several laptops at works aswel, and every time they have been issued to a repair center and the disks has been changed. But this has only been mechanical drives, I refuse tobelieve this is a issue with an SSD.:smileysad:

could you take bigger picture of whole task manager? including process runing? that way we can see what process is called so we can track down if this is a bug with microsoft os alone or not.

Nothing special, but here it goes :  (sorted by disk activity, the last entry in taskmgr is the last process reported consuming disk at 0.1 mb/s)

I might have solved it, ticking off the "Show me tips about Windows" as stated here https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/3h4wjg/windows_10_high_disk_usage_100_ive_seen_a_thread/

The DISK activity spikes have decreased from 70-99 to 2-3 %.

Shame on you Microsoft.
