How To Output a 1440p Video Signal To an External Monitor?

2018-03-22, 2:17 AM

I recently purchased a ThinkPad X1 Yoga 3rd Gen connected to a Thunderbolt Dock. The display of this model is capable of displaying a maximum  resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (WQHD/1440p) using integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics. I have connected an external monitor - a Dell UltraSharp U2713HM - also capable of a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. If the integrated graphics processor can output 1440p on the Yoga, am I wrong to assume it can output 1440p to an external monitor? The reason I ask is because I am only outputting 1920 x 1080 pixels (FHD/1080p) to the Dell. I have an HDMI cable capable of transmitting a maximum resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels between the dock and the monitor. I've gone over all the settings I can find but cannot select anything more than FHD on the Dell. What am I doing wrong?

Solved. I swapped out the HMDI cable for a DisplayPort cable. I am now displaying 1440p on the external monitor. All is good.
