How dangerous is a crack on the right rear bottom around screw?

2021-10-13, 18:22 PM

I  just received a Lenovo X230 with a crack just under the right rear screw.   Lid does not line up with bottom of laptop.  Close.

A nine cell battery has enough of a space line that it is giving a bit of a clunk.

What is nearby, under that crack which could be a board, or such with time and stress waiting to make the entire thing fail?

As I just purchased it, I guess I could simply send it back.

The HMM may help you determine what's in the area, but if it were mine I'd return it ASAP.

A picture would help. but a common reason for cracking near a rear corner is the hinge breaking away from the base.  That kind of problem only gets worse and, often, quickly.

Therefore, as I am too poor to take risks, the laptop goes back.

I will have to find another Lenovo X-230 to buy.

Further Question. I notice I can buy a bottom for less than Forty Dollars. I Fix it says replacing it is moderately difficult and can be done in an hour. Is this worth trying? What are the odds I might have some damage under there that I can not see? I am not supposed to open it and send it back later. I might really damage something by just opening it, and I very nearly have to take it all apart to see the inside of that area. How much might a nine cell battery be contributing to causing this issue?
