How do I disable Hibernate FN hotkey? How do I disable Hibernate?

I want to totally disable hibernate on my computer. I followed the instructions here http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-enable-hibernate-option-in-windows-7/ and it seemed to work because  "Hibernate" disappeared from the start menu. However, when I hit the FN hotkey the box still goes into hibernate.

Can I disable this?

@swinchester4,

1. Open Lenovo Power Manager
2. Switch to Advance
3. Select Global Power Settings Tab
4. Go to Events
5. Change Fn + F4 to "Do Nothing"
6. Press OK.

Done

So the Lenovo Power Manager software has to be installed to accomplish this? There's no way to do it without having the software installed, like from the BIOS or something?

@swinchester4,

For Fn + F4, I doubt there are any other software which can disable this other than the Power Manager.

Re: How do I disable Hibernate FN hotkey? How do I disable Hibernate?

Hello,

Out of curiosity, does issuing a "powercfg.exe -h off" command from an elevated Command Prompt (filename: CMD.EXE) make any difference?

Regards,

No, this is what I originally tired. It disable hibernate in Windows, but it does not disable the Fn Hotkey from activating Hibernate. Unfortunately Smiley Sad

@ JameZ

this doesn't work. The Hibernate hotkey is Fn + F12. The Global Power Settings tab only lists Fn F4. But this is the Sleep key. This is not an issue. Hibernate is what I want to disable (the Fn F12 hotkey).

@swinchester4,

Try this post suggested by Q-Ball and see if it helps.

Re: How do I disable Hibernate FN hotkey? How do I disable Hibernate?

I guess the only solution is a BIOS option to disable Hibernate. Unfortunately no such option exists in the current BIOS.

I use the other FN hotkeys so I don't want to disable all of them. None of the "solutions" that disable Hibernation from within the OS have worked to stop the Fn+F12 hotkey from re-activating hibernation.

Re: How do I disable Hibernate FN hotkey? How do I disable Hibernate?

AFAIK, there's no way that disables Fn+F12.

Any particular reason that you want to disable hibernate? Prevent SSD wear?
