What function are "Lenovo PM Device" and "Lenovo Power Manager" performing in Windows 10?

2019-06-04, 17:05 PM

Are these real hardware devices? What do they do? Are they both needed?

It seems like the "Lenovo Power Manager" comes with Windows 10 and it's not available on the Lenovo support site.

While "Lenovo PM Device" is the opposite and you can only update it from the Lenovo support site.

Any update on this?

I completely disabled "Lenovo Power Manager" in the Windows Device Manager, disabled Lenovo Power Manager scheduled tasks, disabled "Lenovo EasyResume Service". Yet my system is fully functional.

1) Who's using the "Lenovo Power Manager" device

2) And how can I prevent Windows Update from automatically installing it everytime I delete it?

"Lenovo Power Manager" is used by Vantage to provide some of the power-related features such as Battery Charge Threshold and Battery Gauge Reset.  It comes from Windows Update.  If you delete it, Windows Update will put it back, just like nearly every other device in Device Manager, and I don't know how to prevent that.  If you don't want this device to run for some reason, disabling the scheduled task is sufficient.

Isn't "Lenovo PM Device" providing Battery Charge Threshold and Battery Gauge Reset? I have "Lenovo Power Manager" device driver, service and scheduled tasks disabled and yet Battery Charge Threshold and Battery Gauge Reset are functioning correctly in Vantage.

It seems to me like "Lenovo Power Manager" is some sort of legacy power management interface to support older Lenovo tools/apps. Hence the reason I'm trying to delete it.

No, it's actually the other way around.  Lenovo Power Manager is new, and we will be using it going forward to provide new features and interfaces.  Like this:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Vantage-Knowledge-Base/Q-amp-A-setting-a-ThinkPad-battery-charge-threshold-by-script/ta-p/4345631

And I forgot something about Vantage 2.x (which is the latest public version).  It still uses older interface which is why Charge Threshold continues to work even when Lenovo Power Manager and scheduled tasks are disabled.
