How to receive text messages with Mobile Broadband (Verizon)

2008-08-09, 23:19 PM

Is anyone with Verizon's Mobile Broadband able to get text message on their laptop?  I can't figure out how to do it.

Thanks!

Hi, had same problem using Telstra (Australia) SIM.  Found out you have to open access connections, go to Tools Menu, left click on Mobile Broadband and select "Start Text Messaging".

Then you will see messages coming from other parties.  Unfortunately messages won't appear unless you do this anbd there is no shortcut to the Text Messaging app that I have been able to find yet.  There may be a command line string that you can utilise but have not found it yet.

My Mobile Broadband icon on the Tools menu in Access Connections does not have this option and, from my online readings, others do not have this option either.

The tools in my Access Connections has an SMS icon (in addition to the Mobile Broadband icon). I just tried it and it seems to work well for sending and receiving text messages. Send a message by clicking on the SMS icon. When a message is received, a notification balloon pops up at the Access Connection system tray icon. I believe that the SMS is automatically active (I don't see a way to turn it on and off). I'm using an AT&T SIM card.

Send a text message to your mobile broadband account phone number, and see if a notification pops up.

Hi, guys.
Note for access to the sms tool within AC you have to allow that in the global settings of AC. But the sms tool can work standalone, SMS_Application.exe is located in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\Access Connections" folder.
If an AC is lounched you'll be notificated from the tray when sms will be received.
Finally, if you are lucky your modem can send/receive USSD requests using 3rd party tools. My Gobi 2000 does it.

I tried what you suggest but I recevied the following error message:  "The WWAN device is currently configured for CDMA mode which is not supported by this application.  Please configure device for GSM mode and try again."  Since the configuration was set up for the Verizon service at the time that I enabled the service, how do I determine if this service configuration can be modified?  I spoke with "service" representatives at Verizon and Lenovo but neither provided information or service of any kind.
