How to take care battery? Please help

2008-08-31, 15:15 PM

I buy X61 because this laptop can run 5hour + (with 8 cells). But the battery will be shorter time when we use. As Lenovo said after 1 year use, the using time is only 70% of brandnew battery. I normally work with AC connect and with my old Toshiba A6 when connect to AC I take off battery. I only charge battery when it left 7%. Event that after 1 year the battery can use for 80 minnutes (with brandnew battery I can use 160 minutes)

Please show me how to use battery to extent the battery lifespan

Thanks

No you don't need to remove the battery, leaving it in there do not influence your battery life. Only the charging cycle and ambient condition influence the battery life.

You may also want to read this:

If you work mostly on AC, I think that removing the battery and storing it in a cool dry place is a good idea. The site claims that storing the battery with only 30% charge, will make it last much longer, but I hand't tried this.

if you take out the battery, you may lose the benefit of UPS protection during power out and also there is a chance that the power plug may come loose, which may cause a lose of work. In addition, battery have a storage life too, if you don't use it they will lose their storage capacity anyway. If you take care the battery, by not overcharging or discharging, recondition it once in a while, prevent top up charging, then a good battery may last 500 charge cycle plus +.
