Identify X1 Carbon Generation

2015-02-13, 17:30 PM

Hi,

I have just been handed a Lenovo X1 Carbon laptop.  Unfortunately someone has had the SSD away so I am now struggling to find out which SSD I need, and which generation of the X1 I have.

Its the i5.   At the moment I dont have access to the serial and model number (in the office), however I do have the below pic of the motherboard.   I have a feeling this is a Gen 1 Carbon, but am hoping some of the experts out there might be able to clarify:

As I see a mPCIe WWAN card (Ericsson H5321gw) and an SD card reader on your picture, I think it's the first generation of the X1 Carbon.

As the SSDs with a proprietary connector Lenovo used are quite expensive, you may use an M.2 SATA SSD with a length of 42mm with the following adapter:

22x60 m.2 SSD might be fitted with a simple trick:

Just ordered this converter board from "Sintech" the company in the link, so fingers crossed it works, otherwise its one expensive paperweight.

I think in the cupboard we may have a couple of revision 3 X1C's, I just have to sweet talk the guy into swapping mine out if necessary.

Think the other thing that confirms mine is Rev 1 is the Model number: 3460-82G.  Worst case scenario is that I have to use the adapter........ at least it will give a working device.

Thanks for everyone's help and advice, I will report back as soon as I have the parts.   I might find a better solution than "hot glue gun" which someone used.....I prefer a neater solution and an OEM looking finish :-)
