Impossible to make a microphone work on Thinkpad X1 extreme ?

2019-01-15, 16:40 PM

Hi,

There is only one jack on the X1 extreme (that is supposedly both for speakers and microphone), but each time I plug my microphone, the speakers shut down and no sound is recorded at al from the microphone.

I tried to see in microphone / realtek parameters but was unable to make any microphone work (even if on other computers you just have to plug it and that's all)

Is there some drivers for that or is it a known issue that X1 extreme cannot use any microphone ?

Thanks

Be sure you are using the correct plug. This issue was discussed a few weeks ago and the types of plugs that work were mentioned. Since I can't remember them, try searching this X series forum.

The plug will have both the headset (right and left) and the microphone all in 1 plug. If I can find the plug  description I'll post it.

Something like this "separator" plug might work:

https://www.amazon.com/Headset-headsets-separate-headphone-microphone/dp/B004SP0WAQ

I do not know the diameter of the X1 Extreme female receptical on the laptop so double check.

This helped me too

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works. I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

Sorry for digging it up.

I have the same issue, I use iPhone earphone (wired one) with 3.5m plug, do I need to buy the separator as well?

When I plug my earphone, the built-in microphone stop working.
