Hello, I've ought a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th Gen - Kabylake (Type 20HQS03P00) without OS. I installed the OS (Win 10) successfully, including the chipset driver. But I cannot get any network-connection (and because of this no internet), because the installation of the LAN (not the WLAN!) driver failed. I downloaded the network driver (n1mrw04w.exe) from the Lenovo Homepage ("https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/de/de/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-...") to a different PC. I ported it to the target PC with an USB stick and started the installation - it run, but failed at the end with the nothing saying error message "Driver could not be installed". In the system control the network adapter is not recognized (list is empty), in the device manager I found a lot of "!", including the networkm adapter. Did I do anything wrong? Where can I get a correct and installable driver? Is there anything I can do additionally in order to get a running network connection? Thanks a lot for your support, Rotbaer

Hi Rotbaer,
1. Connect your X1 Carbon LAN Adapter
2. Connect your Wi-Fi
3. Download and install Lenovo System Update
4. Go to Start > All Programs > Lenovo > System Update > System Update
Install all the updates.

Thanks for your answer. The Win 10 version is a Professional 64Bit, the very first edition (I think, the updates can be made later, IF I once have a network/internet connection...). Normally the LAN-drivers shall be inside the Win10, but an additional, manually installation of any Intel network driver failed with the hint "... not recommended to install, because not HW not compatible...".

I'm sure you'll get another errors during installation the recent drivers on initial win10 system. So, download media creation tool from ms site and apply the recent win10 1703 update, use an option for installation on different PC/laptop. Then follow the Peter's advice above.

Hi, thanks a lot for your hint: at the end, I could install and run the Win 10 version, that I downloaded with your link. With this version, the LAN HW (and all the other HW, too!) was recognized and installed successfully, so that no "!" is listed in the device manager any more. All following installations were done without any problems, including updates via internet.
So, thanks a lot for the help - hopefully I don't need further support, best regards, Rotbaer
