Installing WWAN card on Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen.

2020-09-21, 23:07 PM

Hi,

Recently I've got a Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen. I inserted a mini sim card in the sim slot of the device but nothing happened so I think there is no WWAN card installed on this device. As I searched a little bit, I found out that, I can add this card to my device.

Would you please give me any advice, which model of WWAN card should I exactly look for? is there the antenna available on my device?

Thanks for your support and advices in advance,

Sam

Anything is possible! It's a lot of work for an adept technician with the right tools. Here are videos showing how, and I recommend referring to the Hardware Maintenance Manual.

My standing advice for anyone who thinks they MIGHT need WWAN, buy a machine with it already installed and save a lot of hassle later. If that's not possible, try to find one specified as "WWAN-ready", as they at least already have the antennas installed.

You can start by opening up the machine and looking as there's a finite chance that there are already antenna's there.

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

Hi Sam, Go to the support site and do a parts lookup for your machine. There are no WWAN antenna's.

Thanks, so does it mean that I can not add antenna and the WANN card on my device anymore?

It's so sad :(
