Intel 5300 changeout

2010-03-20, 4:22 AM

Is it possible to use a Lenovo/Intel 4965agn that has been pulled out of another Lenovo laptop in the X200s (7465CTO) laptop instead of the Intel 5300 that came in the X200s?

Welcome to the forum!

Although I've never tried this swap myself, I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

However, I don't quite understand why you'd consider doing that. Having used both 4965AGN and 5100/5300 cards, I'd always go with the 5300...

Cheers,

George

is there a particular reason why you want to install the older wireless card?

Yes, the 4965agn drivers are far more stable and compatible with Wi-Fi infrastructure platforms than the 5300.  There are some signfiicant driver problems with the 5300.  I took the 4965agn out of my R61e and it put it in my X200s, but I got an error during bootup saying that there was an unauthorized card installed.  Does the X200s BIOS support any cards other than the 5300?

Is there any chance that the 4965agn or the new Intel 6300 will be supported in the X200s laptop?  The Intel 5300 is loaded with driver bugs.  I have confirmed this with an Intel developer, who is currently working to fix them.  I would like to change cards.

The 4965 AGN won't work, and there is little chance that the Intel 6300 will work either.
